The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Youth Activity Promotion Center (Director Kang Seok-yeon) announced that, as part of the “Youth-Up” project in our neighborhood, soccer balls and sneakers bearing messages of hope and peace drawn by teenagers during the “A Pair of Hope, A Goal of Dreams” charity event were delivered to local schools in Kenya.
This activity was organized under the theme of UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16, “Peace andJustice and Institutions,” and was designed to help young people understand the values of human rights and peace as global citizens and put them into practice in their daily lives. The participating youth personally painted 50 soccer balls and 55 pairs of sneakers, inscribing messages of hope and peace to embody the spirit of sharing. In particular, the items crafted by the youth were delivered to local schools in Kenya through the “Salesian Sisters,” conveying warm encouragement and messages of hope to the young people there. Furthermore, the activity held special significance because the youth did not merely donate items; rather, they actively participated as agents of sharing through the process of creating and expressing their own messages. This provided them with an opportunity to naturally experience the values of human rights, peace, and sharing, and to grow into global citizens connected not only to their local communities but also to the international community.

Center Director Kang Seok-yeon said, “This activity was a meaningful experience for the youth, allowing them to convey a message of hope and peace across borders through small acts of kindness. We will continue to expand various participation and outreach activities that enable young people to engage not only with their local communities but also with the world at large.”
"Youth-Up in Our Neighborhood" is a project organized by the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Youth Activity Promotion Center to help youth and the local community work together to build a sustainable society. It is designed to enable youth to engage with various social issues and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through their activities.
