"The 23rd Chuncheon Early Music Competition" Concludes Successfully …

[Suwan News = Digital News Team] The "23rd Chuncheon Early Music Competition 2025," held at Kangwon National University over two days starting on the 25th, came to a successful close.

The competition, which was divided into non-major and major categories, saw a total of 161 participants in the main round: 152 in the non-major category and 19 in the major category.

On that day, the first-place winners in the non-major solo category were △Park Seung-hyuk (Elementary Division), △Han Se-hee (Middle and High School Division), and △Lee Yoon (College and General Division), while the first-place winners in the chamber music category were △Yeodo Elementary School and △Riconuri (Middle and High School Division) △ Chuncheon Recorder Ensemble in the College and General Division; first place in the ensemble category went to △ Daejeon Sangwon Elementary School and △ Chuncheon Recorder Ensemble in the College and General Division. In the solo category for music majors held on the 26th, Kim Se-min won first place, and in the chamber music category, Kim So-hyun won first place.

Kim Jin-ho, a sophomore at Iwo High School, was selected as the Grand Prize winner in the Non-Major Division for solo and chamber music, while the Grand Prize in the Ensemble Division was awarded to the recorder ensemble (conducted by Yoo Hwan-il), composed of students in grades 4–6 at Yeodo Elementary School in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.

In the professional division, Yu Nakamura (harpsichordist), a student at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland, won the Grand Prize.

Meanwhile, this competition—the predecessor to the “Chuncheon National Recorder Competition”—has expanded its categories to include a wide range of early music instruments and has been held as the “Chuncheon Early Music Competition” since 2024. The Grand Prize winners in the major and non-major categories are scheduled to perform in a special invited concert at the 2026 Chuncheon International Early Music Festival.
