The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Youth Activity Promotion Center announced that students from Shanghai, China, will participate in the “2026 Gangwon Youth International Exchange Program: ‘Beyond Imagination, Shanghai (相Hi)’” from August 10 to 14.
Organized by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and hosted by the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Youth Activity Promotion Center, this program was designed to help youth in the province cultivate international competence and a sense of global citizenship, and to broaden their understanding of diverse cultures.
There were a total of 12 participants, who, since being selected last May, took part in four preparatory workshops over the course of about three months. During these sessions, they engaged in systematic preparations for their exchange program, including global citizenship education, gender sensitivity training, safety training, planning and presenting team-based exchange programs, and rehearsals for performances.
The participating youth took the lead in planning the cultural exchange program—which they will conduct alongside local youth in Shanghai—and in preparing presentation materials and performances, thereby enriching the experience of international exchange. While in Shanghai, they will engage in cultural exchange activities with Chinese youth, visit youth organizations, and experience local culture and history, providing them with an opportunity to understand each other’s cultures and grow as global citizens.
Kang Seok-yeon, Director of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Youth Activity Promotion Center, said, “I hope this international exchange will serve as an opportunity for young people to grow into global citizens who understand and respect different cultures,” adding, “We will continue to actively support the development of global competencies among Gangwon’s youth through various international exchange programs.”
The 2026 Gangwon Youth International Exchange Program, “Beyond Imagination, Shanghai (相Hi),” is scheduled to take place in Shanghai, China, over a period of 4 nights and 5 days, featuring a variety of programs such as cultural exchanges with local youth, visits to youth organizations, and historical and cultural tours.
