Students at Dundun Elementary School, located in Socho-myeon, Wonju City, donated 478,200 won—the proceeds from a flea market held on July 23—to the Socho-myeon Administrative and Welfare Center on the 22nd.
These funds were raised through a “thrift market” organized with the participation of all 41 students at Dundun Elementary School and the Parent-Teacher Association. Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, the students and parents voluntarily came together to help neighbors in need and donated the entire proceeds.
An official from Dundun Elementary School said, “We decided to make this donation in the hope that students would learn the joy of giving through the flea market event and that it would provide at least some support to neighbors in need in our community,” adding, “We hope this donation will be a meaningful experience for the students as they learn the significance of giving.”
Kim Jong-geun, head of Socho-myeon, said, “The children’s pure and warm hearts are conveying the meaning of sharing to the local community,” adding, “Since these donations embody the heartfelt intentions of the students and their parents, we will use them thoughtfully to ensure they are properly delivered to neighbors in need.”
