[Suwan News = Reporter Kim Dong-ju] Youth who will shape the future of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province are set to begin their journey in earnest as “policy proponents” who transform the local community, going beyond being mere beneficiaries of policy.
The Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Youth Activity Promotion Center (Director Kang Seok-yeon) announced that it will hold the inaugural ceremony for the 2026 Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Youth Participation Committee on February 25 at the Center’s training hall. This committee is a statutory body established to enable young people to actively participate in the youth policy-making process and make their voices heard.
The 17 members appointed this time consist of youth representing each city and county in Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. They will receive letters of appointment in the name of the Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and will begin working over the next year to promote the rights and interests of youth in the province and address pressing issues.
Going beyond simply exchanging opinions, the committee members will identify gaps in youth policy and develop concrete solutions to address them. In particular, the outcomes they produce will be formally proposed as policy recommendations to key institutions—including the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Office, the Provincial Assembly, and the Provincial Office of Education—thereby ensuring they are effectively incorporated into actual administrative practices.
Immediately following the launch ceremony, the committee members will complete a training program designed to build their professional competencies as youth committee members, and they plan to concurrently engage in external cooperation activities, such as exchanges with other cities and provinces and campaigns to promote their rights and interests.
Kang Seok-yeon, Director of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Youth Activity Promotion Center, stated, “We will provide full support so that young people can bring about tangible change as confident leaders in their local communities,” and emphasized, “I hope that policies reflecting the fresh perspectives of young people will serve as a powerful driving force to shape the future of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province.”
Kim Hee-jin, Team Leader of the Women, Youth, and Family Division at the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Office, is also scheduled to deliver a message of encouragement expressing her expectations and support for youth participation in provincial governance.
Meanwhile, the center plans to release a follow-up press release and photos on the 25th, featuring vivid scenes from the launch ceremony and the committee members’ aspirations.
