
The Gangneung City Dementia Care Center announced that it successfully concluded a variety of in-person events and campaigns organized to commemorate the 19th Dementia Awareness Day (September 21), which drew significant interest and participation from citizens.
This event went beyond the Dementia Care Center’s usual independent operation, gaining added significance through collaboration among various local agencies, organizations, and residents, each contributing their unique talents and roles.

The “Dementia Trivia Challenge! Golden Bell” event, held on the 15th, received an enthusiastic response for its lighthearted presentation of accurate information about dementia through a quiz format. In addition, Korean dance and ocarina performances prepared by senior members of the Korea Senior Citizens Association added to the festivities, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere of togetherness.

Then, on the 16th, the Seongdeok-dong Neighborhood Leaders’ Council, the Health Committee, and the neighborhood community center, in collaboration with the Dementia Care Center, took to the streets to actively promote the Seongdeok-dong Dementia-Friendly Village and raise community awareness about dementia.


The “Movie Walk Where Memories Bloom” event on the 17th, which received the most enthusiastic response, was made possible thanks to the full support of external organizations. Held at the Gangneung Danoje Heritage Education Center, the event featured film screenings supported by the Gangwon Film Commission and pre-event support from the Gangneung branch of Baekse Nuri. Additionally, the Gangneung City School Meal Management Support Center, the Gangwon Provincial Gangneung Nursing Hospital, the Dongbu Specialized Agency for Elderly Protection, the startup “Generation Jayu,” and the Public Health Center’s Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease Prevention and Management Program all operated a joint promotional booth, further enriching the event.

Staff from the House of Peace, the Gangneung Municipal Nursing Center, and the Comprehensive Social Welfare Center personally escorted seniors to the event venue, where they watched a movie together and shared a meaningful time.


Citizens also continued to participate in the “Walk to Overcome Dementia Challenge” using the WalkOn app, as well as in the art exhibition held on the first floor of the Dementia Care Center and the “Tree of Hope for Overcoming Dementia.”
Kim Yu-young, head of the Health Promotion Division, said, “Thanks to the united efforts of various partner organizations and the local community, we were able to make this event even more meaningful.” She added, “I hope this commemorative event will help dispel prejudices against dementia and serve as an opportunity to build a warm and supportive community where people with dementia and their families can live with peace of mind.”
