Jeongseon Kindergarten (Principal Yang Ho-suk) held a “Traditional Games Festival and Songpyeon-Making Workshop in Celebration of Chuseok” for all its preschoolers from the 22nd to the 23rd.
On Tuesday, the 22nd, the preschoolers, dressed in hanbok, participated in a variety of traditional games—such as paper-slapping, shuttlecock kicking, stone-tossing, balloon games, beanbag toss, arm-wrestling, arrow-throwing, spinning tops, and four-corner game—at a traditional play experience area set up on the playground of Jeongseon Preschool. In particular, the event was organized so that 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds formed groups together and rotated through the various game booths. This allowed children of different ages to naturally interact and help one another, providing them with an opportunity to experience consideration and cooperation.
On Wednesday, the 23rd, each class held a songpyeon-making activity in their classrooms. As the children made songpyeon themselves, they developed an interest in the traditional foods eaten during Chuseok and naturally experienced the Chuseok traditions of their ancestors.
The kindergarten stated, “Through this event, the children were able to experience our traditional games and songpyeon-making firsthand, allowing them to appreciate the joy and value of our traditional culture,” adding, “It was an especially meaningful experience because children of different ages were able to play together and cooperate, learning the importance of consideration in the process.”
