Wonju City (Deputy Mayor Kim Jeong-nam) held the “Wonju City University Development Council” meeting on the 22nd at Wonju City Hall, attended by the presidents of five universities in the Wonju area, the dean of the Wonju Campus of Korea Polytechnic University III, and members of the Wonju City Council.
This forum was organized in conjunction with the enactment of an ordinance designed to provide institutional support for the mutual development of the region and its universities, with the aim of strengthening the cooperative relationship between Wonju City and local universities and exploring strategies for the sustainable development of both the region and the universities.
At the meeting, participants exchanged views on various measures to foster mutual growth between the region and universities, including ways to support university students in the Wonju area to settle in the region, collaborative projects between the region and universities, improvements to urban living conditions, the promotion of entrepreneurship, and job creation. In particular, officials from Wonju City and university representatives discussed ways to collaborate on resolving local issues and creating an environment that would enable college students to settle in the region after completing their studies.
The participants agreed to continue seeking solutions to pressing local issues through regular communication and cooperation, and to steadily strengthen the cooperative framework that enables mutual development between the community and the university.
Kim Jeong-nam, Deputy Mayor of Wonju, said, “We will actively pursue municipal policies in partnership with local universities to ensure that their excellent human and material resources and capabilities contribute to the development of the local community,” adding, “To ensure that the region and the universities grow together, it is important to lay the groundwork for mutual growth through continuous communication and cooperation.”
Wonju City plans to review the various suggestions made at this meeting and work to turn them into concrete collaborative projects, while also continuing to strengthen the cooperative framework between the region and local universities through regular communication.
