Wonju City plans to announce the finalists on September 30, following the preliminary judging for the “14th Park Kyung-ni National Youth Writing Contest,” an event where young people from across the country showcase their literary imagination and creative abilities.
The Park Kyung-ri National Youth Writing Contest was established to honor the literary spirit of Park Kyung-ri, a leading figure in Korean literature, and to provide opportunities for creative writing and literary growth to young people who aspire to become writers.
Middle and high school students from across the country submitted entries to this year’s writing contest, and finalists will be selected following a preliminary review of the submitted works. The results of the preliminary round are scheduled to be announced on September 30 via the Park Kyung-ri Literary Park website (https://www.wonju.go.kr/tojipark).
Participants who have advanced through the preliminary round will compete in the finals, to be held on October 17 at the Park Kyung-ni Literature Park. In the finals, participants will be given a writing prompt on-site and asked to create a work based on it; the final winners will then be selected through a judging process. Notably, the Grand Prize winner will receive the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award, which is expected to further enhance the event’s significance as a platform for young people to showcase their literary talents and for discovering literary talent nationwide.
An official from Wonju City said, “The Park Kyung-ri Literature Park, imbued with the literary spirit of author Park Kyung-ri, will serve as a meaningful venue where teenagers from across the country can express their thoughts and feelings through writing,” adding, “We hope this writing contest will provide an opportunity for teenagers to discover their literary talents and develop their creative abilities.”
