Ahead of the Chuseok holiday, Wonju City officials visited Seongaewon, a children’s care facility located in Gwanseol-dong, on the 23rd.
This visit was organized to raise awareness of low-income and marginalized groups during the Chuseok holiday and to foster a festive atmosphere of sharing warmth with neighbors in need.
On that day, Wonju Mayor Koo Ja-yeol delivered care packages funded by a designated donation to the Community Chest of Korea and offered words of encouragement to the facility’s staff and residents. He also listened to reports on the facility’s operations and challenges, taking the time to hear firsthand accounts from those on the ground.
Previously, Wonju City, in partnership with the Community Chest of Korea, provided fruit baskets, instant noodles, and daily necessities to 15 social welfare residential facilities, and also delivered Chuseok holiday care packages—containing daily necessities and comfort items—to 2,161 low-income and vulnerable households.
Wonju Mayor Koo Ja-yeol said, “During the holiday season, we will pay even closer attention to our neighbors in need to ensure that no one in our community feels left out or lonely,” adding, “I hope everyone shares warmth with one another and enjoys a bountiful and happy Chuseok.”
