Wonju City held the “Chuseok Holiday Traditional Market Shopping Event” at 2:30 p.m. on the 23rd at traditional markets within the city, including Jungang Market, Jungwon Traditional Market, Jayu Market, and Doraemi Market.
This event was organized ahead of the Chuseok holiday to boost visits to traditional markets and promote local consumption, thereby helping to increase sales for traditional market vendors and revitalize the local economy.
The event was attended by Wonju Mayor Koo Ja-yeol, along with Wonju City employees, representatives from the Wonju Consumer and Citizens’ Association, and officials from the traditional market merchants’ association. After taking a commemorative group photo together in the area around the Jungang-dong Traditional Market, the participants moved to various markets to purchase Chuseok essentials—including food offerings and agricultural, livestock, and seafood products—thereby taking part in shopping at the traditional markets.
Wonju Mayor Koo Ja-yeol visited Jungwon Traditional Market, Jungang Market, Jayu Market, Doraemi Market, and Nambu Market in turn to shop in person and meet with merchant association representatives and market vendors to hear about the challenges they face in operating traditional markets and gather feedback from the field. In particular, he greeted citizens visiting the traditional markets ahead of the holiday season and shared in the warm festive atmosphere with them.
Wonju City plans to use this event as an opportunity to encourage citizens to visit traditional markets and will continue to provide various forms of support and promotion to revitalize traditional markets, ensuring that consumption during the Chuseok holiday benefits the local business community.
Wonju Mayor Koo Ja-yeol said, “Ahead of Chuseok, the merchants’ association, consumer groups, and public officials have joined forces to breathe new life into traditional markets,” adding, “I hope that citizens will also visit their local traditional markets to purchase fresh seasonal goods and lend their support to local merchants.”
